Accessibility Statement

Committed to improving the accessibility

City of Bristol College is committed to improving the accessibility of this website. We will regularly review its accessibility and use findings from accessibility testing and feedback from users to identify and prioritise improvements.

We will work with our website development agency through our ongoing website improvement programme to address identified technical accessibility issues. We will also review options for ongoing accessibility monitoring and periodic assessment and update this accessibility statement as further issues are identified and resolved. Our website has been designed and developed with accessibility in mind and follows recognised web accessibility standards, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Our approach to accessibility

Our new website has been developed using the latest version of WordPress in partnership with our digital agency, We Are Smile.

Accessibility has been considered throughout the design, development and content creation process. We aim to ensure that our website can be used effectively by people with a wide range of access needs, including people who:

  • use a keyboard rather than a mouse
  • use screen readers or other assistive technologies
  • need to zoom or magnify content
  • have visual, hearing, physical or cognitive disabilities
  • use speech recognition or other alternative methods of interacting with a computer or mobile device.

We aim to make our content clear, consistent and easy to understand, while ensuring that the structure and functionality of the website support accessible use.

This accessibility statement applies to www.cityofbristol.ac.uk

Accessibility features

We have designed the website to support accessibility in a number of ways, including:

We aim to provide clear, consistent navigation throughout the website. Content is structured using appropriate headings and other semantic elements to help users understand and navigate each page.

The website is designed to support keyboard navigation and visible keyboard focus.

Images

We aim to provide meaningful alternative text for informative images. Images that are purely decorative are intended to be identified appropriately so that they do not create unnecessary barriers for people using screen readers.

We aim to use clear and descriptive link text so that users can understand the purpose of a link, including when links are accessed out of context.

Colour and contrast

We have considered colour contrast and the use of colour throughout the website to help ensure that information remains accessible to users with visual impairments or colour vision deficiencies.

Text and page structure

We aim to use clear language, appropriate heading structures and consistent page layouts to make our content easier to read and navigate.

Zoom and responsive design

The website has been designed to work across different screen sizes and devices. Content should remain usable when users increase the size of text or zoom into a page.

Assistive technology

We aim to ensure that the website works with commonly used assistive technologies, including screen readers and keyboard navigation.

Documents and other content

We publish documents in a range of formats, including PDF and Microsoft Office formats.

We aim to ensure that new documents are created and published in an accessible format wherever possible. Where you are unable to access a document, please contact us and we will consider your requirements and provide the information in a suitable alternative format where reasonably possible.

Some older documents may not meet current accessibility standards. We are continuing to review and improve our published content.

Third-party content

Some content or services on our website may be provided by third-party organisations. This may include embedded content, maps, forms, video players or other online services.

  • Pathfinder
  • Youtube
  • Issu

Where third-party content is outside our direct control, we will seek to use accessible services and consider accessibility when selecting or reviewing third-party providers.
