Advanced Construction Skills Centre
Interested in studying one of our construction courses? In September 2021 we are opening a £9m state-of-the-art construction facility in South Bristol. It will be a great place to study and provide students and employers with the skills needed for the future.
About the Centre
Its whole purpose is around providing modern specialist construction facilities where students can train in all areas of construction in order to develop the skilled workforce that employers will need in the years ahead; this will be in trades such as bricklaying, carpentry and construction, and also higher-level training such as project management and quantity surveying which can lead to further study and higher education.
You will study in an inspirational environment that reflects the latest technology trends. We have designed the 3,500 square metre centre so it replicates real working conditions, for example we will have an outside yard and there are workshops and machinery which our students would find in a real-life construction environment. We’ve invested heavily in new equipment that will ensure the training is ‘future-proofed’ to encompass the latest developments and technology.
Focus on sustainability
City of Bristol College is actively supporting the green agenda and is a proud member of the Bristol Green Capitol Partnership. This means we have pledged to support building a sustainable Bristol with high-quality life for all. There are ambitious goals for the city and the College plays a role in supporting this.
Much of the training offered at the Advanced Construction Skills Centres will focus on green, sustainable construction. There is a huge demand locally, regionally and nationally for all our training to incorporate a significant element of sustainability to reflect modern methods of construction and to deliver the right skills for low-carbon buildings and retro-fitting existing housing stock, for example.
What can you study?
The Advanced Construction Skills Centre will prepare you for your dream profession and further develop your skills if you are already working in the sector. You will have access to the facilities and equipment you need to get hands-on experience in your chosen subject. Career paths include:
- Construction Worker
- Project Manager
- Quality Surveyor
We work with a large number of employers in the construction sector. We offer a wide range of apprenticeship programmes, part-time courses to up-skill your staff and bespoke courses to meet your needs. If you would like to work with City of Bristol College get in touch.
From the outset of this project, we wanted to involve key stakeholders in the city region and a representation of employers, large and small, in the construction sector. As part of the project around designing what goes into the Advanced Construction Skills Centre we’ve worked with representative bodies such as the CITB, so that we focus on delivering the right skills for the workforce.
Employers have been particularly helpful in this and the project was steered by an Employers’ Board comprising directors, training and development managers and apprenticeship managers from several regional and national employers, as well as managing directors from companies with Bristol representing SMEs.
This stakeholder engagement will continue and if any employers would like to be involved or participate in a Stakeholder Steering Group, please email Richard.Harris@cityofbristol.ac.uk.
The Advanced Construction Skills Centre is linked as an annexe to South Bristol Skills Academy (SBSA). In addition to the specialist course facilities, you will have access to all of the facilities at South Bristol Skills Academy.
We also offer specialist electrical, plumbing and gas facilities at our Ashley Down Centre.
