Advanced Construction Skills Centre
In September 2021 we’re opening our Advanced Construction Skills Centre, a £9m state-of-the-art facility in south Bristol where students studying our construction courses will learn the skills they need for a career in the industry now and in the future.
About the Centre
The Centre’s purpose is to develop the skilled construction workforce of the future in an inspiring, modern facility that reflects the real world. The 3,500 square metre centre includes an outside civils yard, workshops and machinery to provide our students with future-proof training that encompasses current and upcoming developments in methods and technology.
Through our construction courses, students can learn traditional trades like bricklaying, carpentry and construction, as well as higher-level skills such as project management and quantity surveying, which they can take into further study and higher education to begin a rewarding career.
Focus on sus
To reflect the emphasis being placed on eco-friendly practices in the construction sector, modules on sustainability are included in all of our construction courses, equipping our students with the skills that employers are looking for as initiatives get underway to create a greener future. This curriculum will continually evolve with the help of our employer partners to ensure our training remains up-to-date with the needs of the industry.
What can you study?
The skills you learn at the Advanced Construction Skills Centre will get you on the way to your dream profession, whether you are just starting out or already working in construction. You will have access to all the facilities and equipment you need to learn a variety of skills and get hands-on experience in your chosen area. Possible career paths include:
- Construction Worker
- Project Manager
- Quantity Surveyor
We work with a variety of employers in the construction sector, and offer a wide range of apprenticeship programmes, part-time courses and bespoke courses to meet your needs. If you would like to work with us to provide training to your employees, please get in touch.
From the outset of the Advanced Construction Skills Centre, we wanted to involve key stakeholders in the city region and a representation of employers of all sizes in the construction sector. We have worked closely with representative bodies such as the CITB in designing the Centre to create a space fit for the industry that would deliver the skills needed now and in the future. To this end, the project was steered by an Employers’ Board, comprising directors, training and development managers and apprenticeship managers from several national, regional and local Bristol employers.
This stakeholder engagement will be critical to the ongoing success of the Centre, so any employers who would like to be involved or participate in a Stakeholder Steering Group are invited to get in touch by emailing Richard.Harris@cityofbristol.ac.uk.
We’re proud to work alongside our employer partners to develop the Advanced Construction Skills Centre, and are offering a range of sponsorship levels for your consideration. You can find the full details of our sponsorship opportunities and how to get in touch in our Advanced Construction Skills Centre Sponsorship Information Pack.
