This course is for adults aged 19 and over who have a vested interest in the industry.

This course can help you transform your interest in hair design and styling into a creative, practical and sociable career. You will have lots of opportunities to progress and develop.

Hairdressing is an ever-popular industry in society and with the help of this course, you will grow your knowledge from its foundations to grasp different areas of the topic, which can then be transferred onto more advanced courses.

Subjects you will learn include:

  • Advanced cutting styling and dressing long hair
  • Advanced colouring

You will also learn about promoting products and services. In addition, you will develop excellent customer care skills, so that you can consult and advise clients effectively.

To join this course, you must have completed the Level 2 Hairdressing course.

You should have GCSE Grade 3 (D) in Maths and English.

If you do not have GCSE Grade 3 (D) in Maths and English you will need to complete an assessment. During this assessment you will need a minimum result of Level 1 in Maths and English, if you have not studied with City of Bristol College before.

This qualification is recognised by The Hair Council, so you will be able to progress into a career as a junior stylist with a wide range of establishments such as hair salons, spas, hotels and cruise ships.

Alternatively, you could:

  • seek an apprenticeship to continue your training while you work
  • progress to a higher-level hairdressing course to develop your technical and creative abilities. This could extend your career opportunities, for example by working in fashion, media, TV or film.

Please note that this course incurs a tuition tee of £280 in addition to the course fee, payable at enrolment.

The Advanced Learner loan is available, subject to eligibility, to cover the cost of the course fee.

You will be required to purchase a hair kit of approximately just over £100 and an optional black hoodie at approximately £25. Price confirmed at enrolment.

If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.

How to apply?

Your admissions journey will follow a number of straightforward steps and will likely follow a similar format to the steps outlined on our ‘How to Apply‘ page.

For 16-18 courses, places will be offered for a specific course of study at City of Bristol College, subject to the applicant meeting all course entry criteria.
