This course is for people who want to develop a career in teaching or training in the Further Education and Skills sector. It is suitable if you are:

  • Already working as a teacher, trainer or assessor and want to gain a recognised teaching qualification
  • New to teaching or training but able to meet the required teaching practice and placement requirements
  • Already teaching or training and looking to develop your professional practice and gain a Level 5 qualification

You will develop the knowledge, skills and practical experience needed to teach in the Further Education and Skills sector.

You will explore the principles and practice of teaching, develop your teaching skills and build your understanding of the professional standards expected of teachers in further education.

ou should have achieved Level 2 in English and Maths before starting this qualification and have a good level of digital skills.

As this is a Level 5 qualification, you will need to demonstrate that you have the ability to study at this level.

You do not need to have completed a Level 3 Award in Teaching or Level 4 Certificate in Teaching before starting this course.

You must also be able to meet the required teaching practice and placement requirements, including observed and assessed teaching practice.

On successful completion of this qualification, you could apply for teaching and tutoring roles across the Further Education and Skills sector.

Potential employers include further education colleges, adult and community education providers, work-based learning and training organisations, offender education, and third-sector and voluntary organisations.

The full cost of this course is £2,900, payable over two years at £1,450 per year.

As a City of Bristol College student, you may have additional costs associated with attending your course, such as travel and stationery.

Some courses may also include optional learning opportunities, such as study visits or guest speakers, which may have an additional cost. We will let you know about any additional costs in advance.

If you are on a limited income, you may be able to get help with some course-related costs through our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
