This course is ideal for anyone interested in learning Unreal Engine and developing practical game development skills. It is suitable for beginners, although some experience with 3D software or basic coding can be helpful. All you need is an enthusiasm for creating games and exploring Unreal Engine.

During the course, you'll develop the skills to:

  • Navigate the Unreal Engine interface and workflows
  • Create and texture 3D environments using lighting, materials and game assets
  • Build simple gameplay using Blueprint visual scripting
  • Import custom assets and configure character controls
  • Add basic sound and user interface (UI) elements

Build and package a playable game or level prototype

  • Optimise scenes ready for publishing

There are no formal entry requirements or interviews for this course.

You should have:

  • An interest in game development and Unreal Engine
  • Enthusiasm for practical, hands-on learning
  • Basic familiarity with creative software (such as Blender or Photoshop) or coding concepts (helpful but not essential)
  • A willingness to collaborate and solve problems creatively

On successful completion, you'll have a solid foundation in Unreal Engine and practical experience creating a playable game prototype. The course provides an excellent starting point for further study in game development, 3D design or interactive media, or for continuing to develop your own Unreal Engine projects.

As a City of Bristol College student, you may incur additional costs, such as travel and a pair of headphones for practical sessions.

Some courses also include optional learning opportunities, such as study visits or guest speakers, which may involve an additional charge. We will let you know in advance if any extra costs apply.
