This one-year, full-time course will introduce you to the aviation industry and the different jobs that people do. You will develop the skills, knowledge and practical experience you need to gain employment in ground or air operations or to progress onto further learning.

Find out more about our A Level pathways and how to apply

This course is for young people aged 16-18.

You should be interested in finding out about the aviation industry, and committed to learning and developing personally to increase your future employment opportunities and further study options.

You will learn what is involved in the aviation industry, including the language of aviation and the destinations that people can fly to.

You will learn about the role of air cabin crew and operational roles within an airport such as check-in, baggage handling and aircraft dispatch. You will also develop the communications skills and personal qualities you need to work in the industry.

If you have not yet gained a Grade 4 (C) in GCSE English or Maths, you will study these subjects alongside your course, either as Functional Skills qualifications or GCSE resits, if you already have a Grade 3 (D).

Your next steps will depend on the level of learning and personal development that you reach and the qualifications that you have gained. You could progress to a Level 2 course in airport operations, cabin crew or travel and tourism.

You could seek an Apprenticeship and continue your training while working, or you might prefer to go directly into employment. We will support and guide you to achieve your potential and your goals.

You will need to buy your aviation uniform and pay for trips throughout the year. This will be approximately £180.

If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.

How to apply?

Your admissions journey will follow a number of straightforward steps and will likely follow a similar format to the steps outlined on our ‘How to Apply‘ page.

For 16-18 courses, places will be offered for a specific course of study at City of Bristol College, subject to the applicant meeting all course entry criteria.
