Computing and Cybersecurity Level 2 City of Bristol CollegeThis full-time, one-year course will give you a broad understanding of computing as well as giving you the chance to study exciting and modern areas of computing in more depth. There are practical aspects to the course which are linked to the world of work.
You will also gain the skills, knowledge and understanding you will need to take your studies further.

Who is this course for?
This qualification is for students who want to develop and extend their computing and digital skills to prepare for employment for different roles in the digital and creative industries, such as software and programming, network support and digital design.
The qualification is also designed for job roles in other industries where specific digital skills are required, such as finance, marketing, machining and manufacturing.
The qualification includes a mandatory unit along with optional units that relate directly to the skills, knowledge and behaviours expected by employers and covers a wide range and use of different digital technologies, systems and software.
What you'll learn
This course covers a broad range of computing specialisms designed to give you relevant up to date knowledge and skills to progress in the tech sector. You will engage with practical activity and develop technical skills which can be used at industry and at higher course levels.
During this course you will cover both software and hardware aspects of computing and IT such as software development, networking and cyber security. (See the full list in the course information section above).
The units are designed to give you experience in many different elements of computing that you can expect to find when you start your exciting new career in the workplace.

Course entry requirements
4 x GCSEs at 3 or above including maths and/or English or equivalent or a Level 1 qualification in a relevant subject.

You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

How is the course delivered and assessed?
The course is made up of a number of units that are marked using internally set projects. Each internally assessed unit will be given an assignment and you will receive a grade of Pass or Fail.
Assessment will cover technical applied knowledge and skills, enabling you to demonstrate knowledge and competency. You will receive guidance and support from your teachers to enable you to develop and improve ahead of each assignment.
Future career and study opportunities
This qualification is designed to give you a practical understanding of the computing and digital tech sector, and the routes available in the industry.
As a Level 2 qualification, the common progression is on one of our Computing Level 3 programmes, such as the BTEC Computing Foundation Diploma or T-Levels in Computing. However, there are routes available to more creative sectors such as Games Design, VFX and Animation.
