This course is for beginners who want to learn how to use Fusion 360 for 3D modelling and engineering design.

You do not need previous experience with CAD, CAE or CAM software, although a basic understanding of industrial or product design or engineering may be helpful.

You will learn how to use Fusion 360 to create 3D models and 2D technical drawings, including:

  • Creating 3D models from sketches and basic shapes
  • Using advanced sketching tools to create more complex geometry
  • Creating 3D images of your designs

Using equations and parameters to control models and drawings

  • Creating complex 3D objects using techniques such as path sweeps
  • Preparing your designs for 3D printing
  • Creating a 3D print from your own design as part of your course project

You do not need previous experience using CAD, CAE or CAM software to join this course.

You will need a working knowledge of English and Maths and be confident using Windows-based computers.

You will also need to attend an entry interview before enrolling on the course. Interviews are available in person or by telephone.

In-person interviews take place on Wednesdays at 4pm during term time at the College Green Centre, in room 6E22H. You do not need to book an appointment; simply sign in at reception. Please allow up to an hour for your interview.

Telephone interviews and alternative interview times can be arranged by calling 0117 312 2703 or emailing CAD@cityofbristol.ac.uk.

On successful completion, you will have developed the essential skills to use Fusion 360 for 3D modelling and product or mechanical engineering design.

You can also progress to other CAD courses, such as Inventor, AutoCAD or SolidWorks.

There are no required additional costs beyond the course fee. Please contact us for information about the current course fee.

As part of your enrolment, you will be entitled to access a free educational version of Fusion 360 from Autodesk. You will need access to a suitable computer to use the software at home, although you can use the College's CAD computers if you prefer.

Fusion 360 is available for Mac and PC. Please contact us if you need further information about software or computer requirements.
