This course is for learners with an intermediate knowledge of SolidWorks who want to develop advanced modelling skills.

It is suitable if you have completed our CAD: SolidWorks Intermediate course or have gained equivalent experience through work or previous study.

You will develop your advanced SolidWorks skills, including:

  • Advanced 3D sketching and part modelling
  • Surface and solid modelling techniques
  • Sheet metal design and forming tools
  • SimulationXpress

Core and cavity mould design

  • Managing external references and repairing errors
  • Applying appearances and textures

You should have an intermediate understanding of SolidWorks, either through previous study or industry experience.

An understanding of industrial or product design or engineering is helpful but not essential.

You will need a working knowledge of English and Maths and be confident using Windows-based computers.

You will also need to attend an entry interview before enrolling on the course. Interviews are available in person or by telephone.

In-person interviews take place on Wednesdays at 4pm during term time at the College Green Centre, in room 6E22H. You do not need to book an appointment; simply sign in at reception. Please allow up to an hour for your interview.

Telephone interviews and alternative interview times can be arranged by calling 0117 312 2703 or emailing CAD@cityofbristol.ac.uk.

On successful completion, you will have the advanced SolidWorks skills needed to create complex 3D models and technical drawings for engineering and product design.

You can also progress to other CAD courses, including Inventor and Fusion 360.

There are no required additional costs beyond the course fee. Please contact us for information about the current course fee.

As part of your enrolment, you will be entitled to access a free educational version of SolidWorks from Dassault. You will need access to a suitable computer to use the software at home, although you can use the College's CAD computers if you prefer.

Please contact us if you need further information about software or computer requirements.
