This course is for students who are working at Foundation Level and who will progress to higher-level qualifications, internships, or employment.

In addition to studying English and Maths at the appropriate level, students will have the opportunity to access Vocational sessions (e.g. Drama, Catering, World Studies, Working with people, Art, and Retail & Business) as well as the chance to participate in work experience when they feel ready.

Students are taught in small group sizes with specialist tutors and are supported to develop their independence, communication and social skills in preparation for their next steps.

This is an inclusive course for students with learning difficulties who may find transitioning to college challenging. This programme is aimed at students who are at Entry Level 1 to Entry Level 3.

Students will learn a variety of subjects, which includes English, Maths, Life Skills, Social Skills, a Vocational option, Tutorial, and Employability

You will have a personal tutor who will review your learning objectives and set you targets. These will link to your Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), if held, and other planned outcomes.

Most students will work towards a functional skill in Maths and English.

Students with an Education Health Care Plan may need to have a meeting with the ALS team to ensure the college can meet the individual’s needs.

Students will be invited to a Course Information Meeting to ensure the course is the right choice for the applicant.

No formal qualifications are required.

Students can progress onto E3 transition vocational courses, which include:

  • Hair & Beauty
  • Animal Care
  • Media
  • Motor Vehicle
  • Construction
  • Sports
  • Child & Health Care
  • Catering

Other progression routes include: Supported Internships, Level 1 courses, and Employment.

If any additional costs may be incurred, this will be discussed with the tutor in advance of the activity.
