This course is for adults aged 19 and over who are working towards a career in adult health and social care in a supervised job role.

This course aims to introduce you to the basic concepts of caring and preparation for employment.

It will cover the areas of communication, equality, diversity and inclusion, personal development, the role of the social care worker, handling information, health and safety, safeguarding, duty of care and person-centred approaches.

To join this course, you will need:

  • English at GCSE Grade 3 (D) or Functional Skills Level 2
  • Previous experience of working in the health and social care sector is desirable. However, it is not an essential requirement.

After successfully completing this course, may be able to obtain employment or an apprenticeship in many fields within the sector.

You can also enter into employment as a care worker assistant, youth worker assistant, work for a community healthcare such as a doctor’s surgery or dental practice or in care homes and hospices.

As a City of Bristol College student, you may incur additional costs to attend your course. For example, it is likely you may need to pay for travel and stationery.

Alongside the course fee you will need to pay for a DBS check and course textbook.

If you are on a limited income, you may be able to receive help from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.

You may be able to receive an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees.

How to apply?

Your admissions journey will follow a number of straightforward steps and will likely follow a similar format to the steps outlined on our ‘How to Apply‘ page.

For 16-18 courses, places will be offered for a specific course of study at City of Bristol College, subject to the applicant meeting all course entry criteria.
