Who is this course for?
This programme is for young people aged 18 to 24 with learning difficulties or autism who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and are working towards paid employment.
It is suitable for individuals who are ready to develop their skills, confidence and work experience with support from a job coach and tutor.
What you’ll learn
You will develop the skills, confidence and experience you need to prepare for paid employment. You will learn in the classroom and through practical work placements, with opportunities to develop your employability, communication and workplace skills.
You will also work towards qualifications and continue to develop your English and Maths skills where appropriate.
Entry requirements
You must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and be working towards paid employment.
You must be willing to take part in a work placement with an external employer, with support gradually reduced as you develop your confidence and independence.
You will need to:
- Provide at least one reference, preferably from a work placement or previous employer.
- Be able to use public transport independently on familiar routes.
- Provide a personal statement explaining your previous work experience, why you want to take part in a supported internship, and the skills and qualities you can bring to the programme.
Future career and study
The aim of a Supported Internship is to help you progress into paid employment. Throughout the programme, you will gain valuable work experience, develop your employability skills and receive support to help you move into a paid job.
Your job coach and tutor will work with you and your employer to support your progression towards employment.
