The broad purpose of the occupation is to source, format and present data securely in a relevant way for analysis using basic methods; to communicate outcomes appropriate to the audience; analyse structured and unstructured data to support business outcomes; blend data from multiple sources as directed and apply legal and ethical principles when manipulating data.

In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with a wide range of stakeholders including colleagues, managers, customers and internal and external suppliers. They would typically work as a member of a team; this may be office-based or virtual. An employee in this occupation will be responsible for collecting and processing data under the guidance of a senior colleague or multiple colleagues across the business.

This may vary by sector and size of the organisation. An employee would mainly be responsible for their own work but may have the opportunity to mentor others.

Course entry requirements

Apprentices will be required to have or achieve Level 2 in English and Maths by the end of their apprenticeship if they do not already have a GCSE Grade 1 – 5/A-C in both subjects. Apprentices should be able to demonstrate through initial assessment that they are working at Level 2.

The duration of the apprenticeship is determined by a number of different factors such as experience and prior learning. The minimum time of an apprenticeship is 12 months with the maximum being identified on an individual basis.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

The EPA will be completed in a three-month period, beginning when the EPAO confirms that all gateway requirements have been met. At the gateway, any supporting documentation that supports an EPA assessment technique must be submitted. The end point assessment consists of:

Assessment method 1: Scenario demonstration with questioning, apprentices will be observed by an independent assessor while completing 2 scenario demonstrations, which reflects the competencies assigned to this assessment methods

Assessment method 2: Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio; this assessment will take the shape of a professional discussion that will be structured to bring out the best of the apprentice’s abilities. It will include questions centred on competencies assigned to this assessment method.

The minimum time of an apprenticeship is 12 months with the maximum being identified on an individual basis. There will be a mixture of working in the workplace as well as online classes. 

Future career and study opportunities

This apprenticeship’s core occupational deliverables include, but are not limited to: sourcing data, collating data, presenting data, blending data, analysing data and collaborating with internal and external customers. Apprentices will be provided with support to develop their behaviour and attitudes to succeed in an evolving workplace environment. They will be working as part of a team and will be responsible for their own work.
