Who is this course for?
This course is for adults aged 19+ who want to develop practical media production skills in a welcoming studio environment. It is ideal for beginners, career changers, content creators, aspiring filmmakers and anyone curious about how television and video content is planned and made.
What you'll learn
You will learn the fundamentals of pre-production, filming and post-production. This may include planning a simple shoot, using camera and sound equipment, understanding framing and visual storytelling, working with lighting, recording usable footage and editing short video content. You will also develop confidence in creative collaboration and production workflow.
Course entry requirements
No formal qualifications are required for entry on to this course.Â
An interest in media, film, television or digital content creation is all you need. This course is suitable for beginners. Basic computer confidence will be helpful.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
The course is delivered in-person through practical workshops, demonstrations, guided activities and project-based studio tasks. You will learn by making. As this is a non-regulated course, there are no formal exams. Progress is supported through tutor feedback, practical outcomes and participation.
Future career and study opportunities
This course can support progression to our HNC/HND provision, including HNC/D Film and TV, Graphic Design and Photography. It can also support further creative study, portfolio development or entry-level exploration of screen and digital content roles. It is useful for those wanting stronger production skills for freelance work, social media, marketing content or personal creative projects.
Additional costs
You may be asked to provide a USB drive or storage device for saving work. All essential specialist equipment will be provided for use in class unless otherwise stated.
