Jim Richardson

Director of Human Resources & Organisational Development

Originally from Essex, Jim Richardson joined City of Bristol College as Director of HR and Organisational Development in July 2020.  Jim has worked in a variety of HR roles and this is his first in the education sector.  Most recently he held a senior HR position in a large company group providing community health and specialist social care on behalf of the NHS and local authorities across the South and East of England.

Jim studied his undergraduate degree in Maritime History at the University of Hull and then went on to study an MSc in Human Resource Management at the Open University. Starting his career in the military, Jim completed an exciting and varied commission as an officer in the Royal Navy. His twelve years in uniform saw him specialise in HR, people and administration both afloat and ashore including a happy three years at MOD Abbey Wood in Filton where his close affinity with Bristol and the region originated.

Jim spends his time away from work at home with his young family in Dorset, he enjoys reading history, sailing other people’s boats when he gets the opportunity and making his own cider.
