AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting City of Bristol College

This AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) advanced level course is a mid-level accounting qualification, ideal for anyone who is looking to advance their existing knowledge of accounting. This course will be delivered in College, either one day or two evenings per week over 36 weeks.

This Level 3 course is part of the National Skills Fund initiative and is fully-funded for eligible learners. Alternatively, you can apply for an advanced learner loan to cover the cost of studying this course.

Who is this course for?

This course is for students who have already achieved the AAT Accounting Level 2 Certificate or those who may have relevant workplace experience. This course is for adults aged 19+.and apprentices 16-18 years

What you'll learn

This qualification covers a range of complex accounting tasks. You will learn and master financial processes, including accounting principles and concepts, advanced bookkeeping, final accounts, VAT issues and basic payroll accounting in business, management accounting costing techniques and ethical practices for accountants. You will also gain software skills through spreadsheet training for accounting incorporated within the management accounting unit.

On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded an AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting. This internationally recognised AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification enables those working in accounting or those looking to pursue accountancy as a career to gain knowledge, practical experience and the all-important certification often sought by employers.

The Level 3 course covers a range of key areas, including:

  • Financial accounting: preparing financial statements
  • Management accounting techniques
  • Tax processes for businesses including accounting for VAT and payroll
  • Business Awareness including business structures, ethical principles, external and internal environment impacts on businesses and communications with stakeholders

You will also develop business communications and lifelong learning skills, applying what you learn on the course to the wider industry context.

Course entry requirements

You must have a sound knowledge of bookkeeping principles to undertake the AAT Level 3 programme. Achievement of an AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting is advantageous but not essential.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

Classroom based learning – Lessons delivered every week by an experienced AAT tutor.

Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.

Your tutor will provide regular guidance and feedback to ensure that you are assessment ready for online computer- based exams. This course is assessed through computer-based exams and a synoptic assessment, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification.

Future career and study opportunities

On successful completion of this course, you can progress to the AAT Level 4 Professional Diploma.
The skills and knowledge you will gain throughout this qualification will qualify you for roles including Finance Officer, Assistant Accountant and Bookkeeper. You will also be eligible for AAT Bookkeeper (AATQB) status, giving you the option to work as a freelance bookkeeper.

Additional costs

You will need to pay a L3 AAT qualification registration fee of £225 to AAT.
