The Accounts or Finance assistant is responsible for assisting the team of accountants with junior accounting duties. These can vary massively depending on the team structure and size of a business.
An Accounts or Finance assistant’s work could include:

Who is this course for?
This apprenticeship is for financial assistants looking to develop their knowledge and skills on the path to ultimately becoming a fully-qualified professional Accountant.
What you'll learn
You will complete a series of modules towards the standard covering knowledge, skills and behaviours. Topics covered include Bookkeeping Transactions, Controls, Costing and Using Accounting software.
Your course will be delivered within City of Bristol campuses where you will be supported by specialist lecturers.
You will also be supported within your workplace towards the apprenticeship by a City of Bristol college accounting apprenticeship trainer who will work closely with your employer and lecturers to ensure your programme provides the foundation for a successful career in the profession. They will also guide you to develop your portfolio in preparation for end point assessment.
You will also need to complete 20% off the job training which will consist of your class delivery in college and work outside your normal job role and any other off the job training which maybe set by your employer.
Functional skills in English & Maths at Level 2 if not already achieved within GCSE at Level 4 or above.
At the end of your apprenticeship you will complete an end point assessment which consists of a professional discussion supported by a portfolio of evidence.
The apprenticeship provides knowledge and skills for new accountants looking to forge a career in industry, commerce or in professional practice.
Course entry requirements
Apprentices will be required to have or achieve level 1 in English and Maths by the end of their apprenticeship if they do not already have a GCSE Grade 1 – 9 in both subjects.
Where an apprentice has a level 1 or equivalent then they will be required to work towards achieving their level 2 Functional skills during their apprenticeship.
The duration of the apprenticeship is determined by a number of different factors such as experience and prior learning. The minimum time of an apprenticeship is 12 months with the maximum being identified on an individual basis.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
You will learn and develop skills in financial / management accounting and IT skills to provide a solid foundation before progression to Level 3.
You will continue to work within local industry or commerce while gaining further knowledge and skills.
You will work with your accounting apprenticeship trainer and employer to gain the knowledge and skills ready for your end point assessment. Including the attendance of class delivery and online practice.
You will use the knowledge & skills from your standard to demonstrate to your end point assessor how these skills are put into practice in an accounting workplace
