Airport Ground Operations Level 2 Diploma City of Bristol CollegeThis one-year, full-time course will help you prepare for a career on the ground at airport terminals. You will learn about the work that goes into making sure everything runs smoothly in a busy airport. This course is run collaboratively with Jet2, who support our students with paths to employment at Bristol Airport.

Who is this course for?
This course is for young people aged 16-18.
If you are interested in a career in the exciting world of aviation, this course could help you to achieve your goal.
You should enjoy interacting with people, be committed to excellent standards of customer service and be able to work as part of a team. You will need a flexible approach to your future working life, due to the shift work which is required in this industry.
What you'll learn
You will experience, first hand, the different operational areas of an airport including airport check-in, security and baggage processing; and aircraft marshalling, arrivals services, boarding and dispatch.
You will develop the knowledge, skills and qualities you need to work in these roles, for example aviation language and procedures, communication skills and customer service. You will be thoroughly prepared to take part in aviation assessment days, which are used by the industry to recruit staff.
You will make sure you have the Maths, IT and English skills which employers need. If you have not yet gained a grade 4 (C) in GCSE Maths or English, you will study these subjects alongside your course, either as Functional Skills qualifications or GCSE resits, if you already have a grade 3 (D).
Course entry requirements
4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including Maths and/or English or a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject plus GCSEs in Maths and/or English, or a Functional Skills qualification in Maths and/or English.
We will invite you to a Course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.
Some Level 2 Technical qualifications may require a slightly higher entry requirement based on the specific content of the course. This may include having English or Maths at Grade 4

How is the course delivered and assessed?
You will learn through a mix of classroom work, practical activities, visits, assignments and work experience. At college, you will learn in our specially-designed Tourism Hub at the South Bristol Skills Academy (SBSA) which includes a fully equipped aircraft cabin with seats, equipment and landslides.
Our teachers have a wealth of industry experience and excellent links with regional employers.
You will be assessed in a variety of ways to give you the best opportunity to demonstrate your skills including written tests, group work, assignments and role play activities. Maths and English will be assessed through tests and exams.
Future career and study opportunities
When you complete this course, you could seek employment in the aviation industry, for example in passenger handling or baggage processing.
Alternatively, you could develop your skills and knowledge further by joining one of our other travel and tourism courses before seeking employment or further training.
Additional costs
You will need to buy your aviation uniform and pay for trips throughout the year. This will be approximately £300.
If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
