Circuit Training – Group Exercise Instructing City of Bristol College

This qualification enables learners to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to professionally prescribe, plan and deliver a safe and effective group exercise session within a gym, health club or outdoor environment.

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone who has a relevant Level 2 qualification and wishes to expand their skills, knowledge and services.

It’s also an appropriate course if you are already instructing and wish to improve your knowledge and skills to enable you to deliver circuit training sessions. It is also relevant for those already running such sessions without a formal qualification.

Course entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including Maths and/or English or a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject plus GCSEs in Maths and/or English, or a Functional Skills qualification in Maths and/or English.

We will invite you to a Course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

Some Level 2 Technical qualifications may require a slightly higher entry requirement based on the specific content of the course. This may include having English or Maths at a Grade 4

Learners must be aged 16 plus at the point of certification.

Ideally, learners should have some experience of participating in exercise through personal practice as they will need to participate in group exercise as part of this qualification.

Learners should also have communication skills, pitched at Level 2, which can be further developed during the course.

To be eligible to complete our Level 2 Award in Group Exercise Instructing, learners must have previously completed a qualification endorsed against one of the following CIMSPA professional standards: Gym Instructor, Core Group Exercise Instructor, Strength and Conditioning (Trainer).

How is the course delivered and assessed?

The course will be delivered via a mix of theory in the classroom and practical learning/assessing in the gym/studio.
