Construction (Plumbing) Level 1 for adults City of Bristol CollegeThis intensive one-year, six-hours-per-week course will teach you about plumbing repair and maintenance. You study hot and cold services and maintenance to taps, valves, and float valves in domestic dwellings. You will gain technical knowledge and practical skills in plumbing at Level 1.

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for those aged 19 and over who have a keen interest to learn the knowledge and skills required to start a career in the plumbing industry.
What you'll learn
This qualification is a basic craft introduction to the plumbing industry. You will cover 10 units which are assessed with a mixture of practical tasks and paper based exams. The units include structure of the construction industry, site preparation, above ground drainage, plumbing science, copper pipework and environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings.
Course entry requirements
To join this course you must have one of the following:
- Grade 3 (D) GCSE in Maths and English
- An initial assessment in Maths and English at Level 1 or above
- Successful completion of Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
You will be assessed throughout the duration of the course via a combination of practical work and observation.
Future career and study opportunities
On successful completion of the course you may be able to progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing course. You could also apply for an apprenticeship in the plumbing industry.
Additional costs
As a City of Bristol College student, you may incur additional costs to attend your course. For example, it is likely you may need to pay for travel and stationary.
You will need your own protective footwear for practical sessions. You may also need a high visibility vest, protective goggles and gloves for some tasks. We offer some equipment which is free for you to use in College.
