This one-year, full-time Level 1 Hairdressing qualification will help you build the foundations to begin an exciting career.

You will learn all about the requirements for working in the Hairdressing industry and its exciting opportunities.

You will work in our modern college salons to practice skills in a realistic environment.

You will develop the knowledge and skills you need for the next level of learning, employment or an apprenticeship.

Who is this course for?

This course is for young people aged 16-18.

If you have a passion for working with people and you are keen to develop your Hairstyling skills then this is the course for you.

What you'll learn

This Level 1 course will give you basic knowledge, skills and experience in Hairdressing.

You will also build your confidence and your communication skills when working with clients.

You will learn about the hairdressing industry and gain your Level 1 Hair qualification.

This will include:

  • Health and safety in the salon.
  • How to present yourself professionally to meet industry requirements.
  • Working with others in the hair and beauty industry.
  • Introduction to Hair Styling women’s hair
  • Plaiting and twisting hair

Students are expected to have all treatments performed on them by other students, and to model other students’ work.

Course entry requirements

You will need a Grade 2 GCSE in English and Maths.

Discover the exciting world of Hair artistry with our hands-on course.

Dive into engaging modules that combine theory and practical assessments, refining your skills in our modern hair salons on campus.

Our well-designed curriculum ensures a balanced learning experience, covering essential knowledge and skills for junior-level mastery in Hairdressing.

Collaborate with peers, practising and modelling on each other for Level 1 training that prepares you for success in Level 2 and beyond.

Future career and study opportunities

This qualification opens doors to allow you to progress on to Level 2 full-time programmes in Hairdressing or Barbering.

With these Level 2 qualifications, you can work in a Hairdressing salon as a level 2 apprentice or advance to a Level 3 full-time course in hairdressing.

Additional costs

Cost for uniform, kit and trips shared at induction. 

If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
