Level 3 Beauty Therapy Techniques City of Bristol CollegeThis course is for students who have already achieved a Level 2 qualification in beauty therapy and now wish to further their skills and learn advanced techniques in electrical equipment suitable for the face and the body, for example: micro-dermabrasion, microcurrent, vacuum suction.
As part of this course, you are also required to complete an Industry placement to support your skills and personal development.

Who is this course for?
This course is for students aged 17-18 who have achieved a Level 2 beauty qualification and want to turn their personal interest and enthusiasm for beauty into a professional career as a beauty therapist.
You should enjoy working with people, in a team environment and individually, and understand the importance of working professionally to achieve excellent standards of work and customer service.
What you'll learn
During this course, you will have the opportunity to learn how to use advanced electrical equipment suitable for the face and the body, for example: micro-dermabrasion, microcurrent, and vacuum suction.
You will also gain in-depth knowledge of the human anatomy in order to carry out some key industry skills used in spas and salons. This includes Swedish massage, hot stone massage and tanning. You will also learn about promoting products and services, and you will develop excellent customer care skills so that you can consult and advise clients effectively.
If you are aged 16-18, and you have not yet gained a grade 4 in GCSE Maths, you will also study these subjects as GCSE resits
Course entry requirements
5 x GCSEs at 4 or above, or a Level 2 equivalent in a relevant subject. You will have gained either English and/or Maths at GCSE 4 or above, or Level 2 Functional skills in English and/or Maths. You must also have completed a Level 2 in Beauty as an industry standard.
We will invite you to a course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other this will include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria.
All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference / school report.
If you are applying for a creative practice-based course, you will be invited to bring a portfolio of work that demonstrated what you have done in your previous courses.

How is the course delivered and assessed?
You will learn in our excellent professional salons and treatment rooms with the expert guidance and support of our highly experienced staff. You will have opportunities to work with real clients and paying customers to complete assessments required to achieve the qualification.
You will benefit from our excellent links with local employers, and you will have opportunities to put what you learn into practice through work experience. We have a number of guest speakers to inspire and encourage our students from local successful businesses.
You will be assessed continually throughout the course through practical and theory assessments, assignments and online tests. There is no final exam.
If you study English and Maths, these subjects will be assessed by GCSE exams.
Future career and study opportunities
When you complete the course, you can seek employment in various settings, for example, in salons, spas and on-board a cruise ship.
Alternatively, you can progress on to Higher Education and university.
You could also join one of our short specialist courses to build your portfolio of professional skills, for example, Gel Polish or Indian Head Massage.
Additional costs
You will need to buy your uniform, which costs approximately £73 and enrichment trips approximately £70.
If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
