This certificate in Sports, Exercise and Fitness will give you the skills and knowledge to start a career in Sport. You will cover sports injuries, strength and conditioning, development of personal fitness through training, how to use a gym safely and introduction to sports massage.

Who is this course for?

This course is for young people aged 16-18. If you are passionate about staying fit and healthy, and you can see yourself in a career where you help others develop their health and skills.

What you'll learn

You will develop an excellent understanding of how to build and maintain health and fitness through exercise and a healthy lifestyle. You will learn how the body operates and understand the benefits of a balanced diet. You will learn how to plan and instruct fitness sessions in the gym and group exercise sessions, for a range of clients and a variety of exercises.

Course entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including Maths and/or English or a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject plus GCSEs in Maths and/or English, or a Functional Skills qualification in Maths and/or English.

We will invite you to a Course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

Some Level 2 Technical qualifications may require a slightly higher entry requirement based on the specific content of the course. This may include having English or Maths at Grade 4

How is the course delivered and assessed?

You will complete written assignments, presentations and practical observations to build your portfolio evidence.

Future career and study opportunities

You could progress on to one of our higher-level courses and extend your skills and career prospects in the field of sports, fitness or uniformed services. Alternatively, moving into a career in sport and fitness is also possible straight from Level 2 Sport and all tutors can help with this if required.   

Additional costs

You will need to buy a uniform/gym wear, gym membership, and contribute to the costs of educational trips. This will be approximately £280 for the year. If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
