Professional tradesperson looking for a career change? City of Bristol College needs you!

At City of Bristol College, we offer something for everyone in an inclusive and dynamic learning environment. We operate across vibrant centres throughout the city, with state-of-the-art facilities, expert staff and an inspiring learning environment for our students to thrive in. The newest addition to the college map, the Advanced Construction Skills Centre, is a purpose-built annexe at our South Bristol Skills Academy in Hengrove.

Opened in September 2021, our Advanced Construction Skills Centre is an incredible £9m facility in south Bristol where students studying our construction courses learn the skills they need for a future-proof career. They do so in our modern facility that reflects a real-world working environment.

To reflect the emphasis being placed on eco-friendly practices in the construction sector, modules on sustainability are included in all of our construction courses, equipping our students with the skills that employers are looking for as initiatives get underway to create a greener future for all.

With this in mind, we’re launching a fantastic new opportunity with our Teaching Scholarship Programme.

What we’re looking for:

  • Those who are qualified to a minimum of Level 3 in Electrical Installation, Gas Installation, Joinery or Plumbing.
  • Those who are experienced in supporting people to develop. For example, through training or mentoring on the job.
  • Those who are dedicated to high standards and keen to share their industry knowledge and experience with the next generation of professional tradespeople.

What are the benefits?

Successful applicants will join our teaching training programme for FREE while they start to work for us.

You’ll get a comprehensive package of support including a mentor in the form of our Quality Improvement Coaches to guide you through the process, plus time off to complete the learning within your working hours.

What our staff have to say:

“Working at the college has given me so many opportunities with a great learning path. Everyone is so friendly and always willing to work together to consistently improve as a college.”

“I would not have progressed at all in my career or had any of the wonderful professional experiences I have been privileged with unless I had received the excellent education and subsequent qualification offered to me by the college.”

“Getting a job at the college has been a real game-changer for my career. I have learned so much and developed in a way I never imagined. I feel respected by my managers and my colleagues and like I am making a real difference to students’ lives.”

During their four-day inspection, a team of fifteen Ofsted Inspectors found that “teachers and other college staff foster mutual trust and respect. Students and apprentices are keen to learn and are supportive of each other in their learning. As a result, students and apprentices display high levels of positive behaviour and are proud of their work. They enjoy their lessons and are motivated to engage in new experiences.”
