Shaista, a dynamic first-year City of Bristol College A Level student recently shared her current experience at the college with us in an interview, highlighting the national initiative of ‘Love Our Colleges Week’.
She is certainly making waves whilst pursuing A Levels in Maths, Biology and Chemistry at our College Green Centre. We caught up with Shaista to learn about her college experience so far and how she is finding the City of Bristol College lifestyle.
She stated that the College Green Centre can be found nestled in the heart of Bristol and proves to be a great way to see all that Bristol has to offer when she has breaks between classes.
As a first-year student, Shaista also spoke of her transition from secondary school to college.
She said: “The teachers are really nice and supportive of the transition from GCSE to A Levels. The college helped the transition with things like the welcome fair and providing a tutor to go to for support.’’
Another aspect of college life that Shaista enjoys is the fact that students are treated as individuals with increasing independence. In fact, she actually remarked that being treated as an adult is one of the best features of the college.
Shaista has wholeheartedly embraced college life and has become an integral part of the City of Bristol College community. She has even signed up as a Student Ambassador because she enjoys “helping out in events and giving back to the college.’’
She remarked that being a part of the Student Ambassador team has proved to be a great way for her to meet students and teachers hailing from differing courses. Her first event as part of this team was a fantastic experience as she headed to The Bristol Beacon to help with City of Bristol College’s Higher Education Graduation 2023 ceremony.
As we wrapped up our insightful interview with Shaista, we wanted to learn if she had any advice for prospective students.
She advised them to: ‘’Give it a go!’’ She also told us how there are a multitude of Open Events that offer an introduction to the college before having to decide on pathways and courses. Shaista also commented how if a student doesn’t like the course that they’re currently enrolled on, there is a great deal of support from staff and teachers available to help each student find the best course for them and their individual needs.
