Staff vs students sporting competition promotes incredible teamwork and sportsmanship

An annual occurrence, our staff vs students sporting event unites the college in a celebration of health and fitness.

A combination of Plastering Level 2, Catering, Construction, Health and Fitness Level 1, 2 and Public Services Level 2 students stepped up to the plate, and put their all into trying to beat City of Bristol College staff whilst showcasing their skills and competitive spirit.

The atmosphere was positively electric at Hengrove Leisure Centre as dodgeball, rounders, tug of war and shoot the hoop took place.

Cheers of jubilation filled the air as Catherine Howett, Vice Principal for Quality and Curriculum, alongside lecturers and many other spectators took to the stands to show support for their chosen team.

Building to a crescendo, just before the event drew to a close, Public Services Level 2 students were triumphant in their efforts and scooped the overall competition win, securing the 2023 accolade.

Awards were also given to students who excelled in the event; Bryn Buckingham, Bailey Ponting-Fussell and Ashley Brooks.

The closing ceremony was indeed a moment saturated with pride and joy as all participants were awarded medals and treated to cakes made by our Catering department.

One thing became clear throughout the duration of the sporting event and that was that across the board, students and staff alike demonstrated enthusiasm, energy, sportsmanship, skills and above all, incredible teamwork.

Learning Assistant, Natasha Watkins, who orchestrated the event, commented: “The event was a memorable experience like every year, that will also be cherished by myself, staff and the students.

“The students represented City of Bristol College in a professional way. Just to see the students smiling, having fun, working as a team and participating in sports they enjoy or haven’t tried before made me smile and I know all the hard work towards this event has made it worth the time I spent on it. Until next time.”

A huge well done to all that took part – it was a fantastic light-hearted event and a great way to dispel any potential stress this exam season. Until next year!
