Student’s radio documentary celebrates ‘College of Sanctuary’ status

A recent collaboration between 6 of our Level 3 Creative Media Production students, Computing staff, students and our ESOL students has resulted in the broadcast of a fantastic 3-part radio documentary on a local radio station.

The documentary was broadcast on Bristol Community FM’s ‘This is Bristol’ programme, to mark National Refugee Week. It was also created in order to celebrate the college’s status as a College of Sanctuary; something that we are recognised for in Bristol, our City of Sanctuary.

The focus of the production took the form of interviews featuring several of our ESOL students, who were interviewed by our media students about their experiences of moving to and living in Bristol, as well as being City of Bristol College students.

A number of the ESOL students that took part made the choice to become part of the City of Bristol College community in order to learn English and gain new experiences; whilst for others it was to escape any potential harm due to conflict in their home countries.

Additional support also came from the Catering students and wider team who produced two lunches for the staff and students when they were talking informally before the official interviews commenced.

The radio documentary will be available here for the next couple of weeks. This link directs you to the ‘Listen Again’ page of the Bristol Community FM’s website. From here, simply type ‘This is Bristol’ into the search bar on the left-hand-side and select the documentary that was broadcast on the 20 June programme.

Part 1 of the documentary can be found at 7 minutes in, part 2 can be found at 21 minutes in, and part 3 can be found at 35 minutes in.
