We are delighted to announce that City of Bristol College has become accredited as a Living Wage Employer. This accreditation demonstrates that we are voluntarily joining the nearly 9,000 other UK businesses in going above the government minimum and ensuring our employees earn enough to meet their needs.
Becoming a Real Living Wage Employer comes at a perfect time during Living Wage Week, which aims to raise awareness of the scheme and widen participation to even more organisations.
The new Living Wage rate is £9.90. At City of Bristol College, this has resulted in a direct pay increase for many staff including those working as invigilators, travel support staff for students with additional learning needs, and facilities officers. We have also committed to paying all contractors working with us the Real Living Wage within 3 years.
Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development, Jim Richardson, said: “We are delighted that City of Bristol College is a Living Wage Employer. We want to attract and retain the best people and paying the living wage is the right thing to do. It is very timely to be able to share this milestone and our commitment at the end of #LivingWageWeek.”
Almost 300,000 employees nationwide have received a pay rise so far as a result of the Living Wage campaign, which enjoys cross-party support in government. Other employers currently accredited include half of the FTSE 100 and prestigious names including Nationwide, Google, Brewdog, Everton FC and Chelsea FC.
