Entry Requirements

Essential Requirements  

  • range of qualifications which should include at least 3 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Maths (or equivalent)
    OR successful completion of an level 1 vocational qualification
  • an initial assessment at level 1 or above
  • a good record of attendance and commitment at school or college

Desirable Requirements

  • An attendance record at college in excess of 90%
  • A strong commitment to adopt a 'work ready' approach, taking responsibility for your own development and behaviour
  • Completed 30 hours or more of work experience within the construction industry
What will I do on this course?

Unit 201/601 Health, safety and welfare in construction

You will learn all about Health safety and welfare in construction ranging from legislation to fire safety to accident reporting

Unit 202/602 Principles of building construction, information and communication

You will learn the basis of construction including the roles and responsibilities of various other trades and construction professionals. You will also learn about the documentation and methods of communication that are used within the construction industry

Unit 235 Carry out small-scale building repairs

You will learn about and gain practical experience of making repairs to brick and masonry work

Unit 236 Carry out small-scale painting and decorating repairs

You will learn about and gain practical experience of making repairs to paintwork and decorative finishes

Unit 237 Carry out small-scale plastering repairs

You will learn about and gain practical experience of making repairs to plaster and plaster based components

Unit 238 Carry out small-scale plumbing repairs

You will learn about and gain practical experience of basic plumbing and making repairs to plumbing components

Unit 239 Carry out carpentry repairs

You will learn about and gain practical experience of basic carpentry and making repairs to carpentry components

You may also be required to study Maths and English as part of your course.
