Business administrators have a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied in all sectors. This includes small and large businesses alike; from the public sector, private sector and charitable sector.

The role may involve working independently or as part of a team and will involve developing, implementing, maintaining and improving administrative services. Business administrators develop key skills and behaviours to support their own progression towards management responsibilities.

The responsibilities of the role are to support and engage with different parts of the organisation and interact with internal or external customers. With a focus on adding value, the role of business administrator contributes to the efficiency of an organisation, through support of functional areas, working across teams and resolving issues as requested.

The flexibility and responsiveness required allows the apprentice to develop a wide range of skills.

Who is this course for?

The Business Administration Level 3 Apprenticeship is suitable for anybody within a administration position. 

What you'll learn

The apprenticeship combines developing practical and theoretical skills, together with experience gained in the workplace.

Depending on the job role, the apprentice could develop a variety of administrative skills, including:

  • Contributing to running a project
  • Coaching others within the workplace
  • Learning how to create business documents
  • Effective communication skills

Course entry requirements

Apprentices will be required to have or achieve Level 2 in English and Maths by the end of their apprenticeship if they do not already have a GCSE Grade 1 – 5 in both subjects.

Apprentices should be able to demonstrate through initial assessment that they are working at Level 2.

The duration of the apprenticeship is determined by a number of different factors such as experience and prior learning. The minimum time of an apprenticeship is 12 months with the maximum being identified on an individual basis.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

You will need to pass an endpoint assessment in the form of a multiple-choice assessment, a project presentation and a portfolio interview.

Competency is assessed through a combination of methods in the workplace/online and visited regularly by their assessor. On completion, the apprentice will have gained knowledge about their employment rights and responsibilities and will have the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in English (if applicable)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in Mathematics (if applicable)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in Information and Communication Technology (if applicable)
