Cosmetic Make-up Level 2 for adults City of Bristol College

This part-time, 14-week evening course, will give you practical skills and product knowledge in cosmetics. You will learn how to apply make-up and perform make-up treatments for friends, family and yourself.

The course will give you a good foundation if you want to continue your studies and are working towards a career in professional make-up.

Who is this course for?

This part-time course covers cosmetics product knowledge and application techniques. You will learn how to apply make-up and perform make-up treatments on yourself and other people.

The course will give you a good foundation from which to continue progressing towards a career in professional make-up.

What you'll learn

You will learn practical techniques and the supporting product knowledge and theory about applying makeup for day, evening and special occasions, and also about eyelash and eyebrow tinting and application of strip lashes.

You will also learn about health and safety practices within a salon and the importance of good customer care and communication.

Course entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including Maths and/or English or a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject plus GCSEs in Maths and/or English, or a Functional Skills qualification in Maths and/or English.

We will invite you to a Course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

Some Level 2 Technical qualifications may require a slightly higher entry requirement based on the specific content of the course. This may include having English or Maths at Grade 4

How is the course delivered and assessed?

This part-time course is taught one evening a week or one day time session each week. You will learn in our professional salons and treatment rooms, from expert teachers who have professional experience and industry knowledge. You will have opportunities to practice your skills on other students.

Your work will be assessed throughout the course through assignments, practical observations, a portfolio of work and online assessments.

Future career and study opportunities

When you complete this course, you could progress to the Level 2 Beauty Therapy Certificate to broaden your knowledge and career opportunities.

Alternatively, you could progress into employment. Typical roles include high street makeup counter assistant and freelance makeup artist.

Additional costs

You will need to buy equipment and materials, including uniform which is £50.40 as well as the cosmetic make-up kit which is £163.50.

If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
