From apprentice to advisor: Kobe’s inspiring apprenticeship journey

Kobe’s path from apprentice to Junior Careers and Employability Advisor at City of Bristol College is a testament to the transformative power of apprenticeships. His story is one of perseverance and ambition, reflecting the opportunities offered by apprenticeship programmes.

Kobe’s journey commenced as part of the college’s apprenticeship team, where he honed his skills and knowledge in vocational training.

Kobe commented: “My apprenticeship was in the apprenticeship team, funnily enough, at City of Bristol College.”

He soon uncovered that he had a passion for working in the education sector, adding: “Whilst doing events and working closely with students, I realised that I really liked working in the education sector and I had a passion for that.”

During his apprenticeship, Kobe certainly embraced every opportunity presented to him and seized every chance to expand his expertise. The completion of two separate apprenticeships solidified his commitment to personal and professional growth as he rapidly became a great asset to the college community.

Talking of his journey, Kobe stated: “I didn’t really know what I wanted to do within teaching because I didn’t have a teaching background. But I knew that I relate with advice and speaking with students about different apprenticeships and different options that the college have.”

Realising that he wanted to pursue a career as a Careers and Employability Advisor, Kobe’s journey came full circle. Armed with first-hand experience and a deep understanding of the challenges facing students, Kobe now plays a pivotal role in guiding them towards fulfilling careers and opportunities.

In his current role, Kobe leverages his unique perspective to provide personalised support and guidance to students navigating the complexities of the job market.

Talking of the advice that he would give to someone considering an apprenticeship, Kobe commented: “If you’re just thinking about a partnership, use the resources around you. A lot of employers, are looking to employ apprentices, they’re looking to help you and answer any questions that you have.”
