Bristol South MP Karin Smyth teamed up with City of Bristol College, Bristol City Council and the Department for Work and Pensions to deliver the seventh annual South Bristol Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair last week
The event brought together a range of employers with vacancies and apprenticeships on offer, as well as organisations offering key employment advice.
Some of Bristol’s biggest employers were present at the event looking to recruit apprentices and new staff, as well as key businesses from south Bristol.
Ms Smyth first started the annual event in 2017. Now in its seventh year, the fair has historically helped hundreds of people locally find the right next step for them.
Karin Smyth, MP for Bristol South, said: “For anyone looking to kickstart their career, choose the next step in their education, or simply find out the options open to them, the fair is the perfect opportunity to meet with local employers and organisations offering advice.”
Councillor Asher Craig, Deputy Mayor with responsibility for Children’s Services, Education and Equalities, said:
“This event is a collaborative effort, bringing together a diverse range of employers with exciting local vacancies and apprenticeships. Residents can also take advantage of the essential employment support and skills advice on offer
“We are continuing to invest significantly in south Bristol, helping to build a city where nobody is left behind. With around 250 Bristol employers now paying the Living Wage, there are many incredible businesses in the south of our city ready to employ local talent.”
Principal and Chief Executive Officer of City of Bristol College, Julia Gray, commented:
“We are incredibly proud to continue to work in strong partnership with Karin Smyth MP, Bristol City Council, The Department for Work and Pensions and other city partners to host the annual event at City of Bristol College.
“The collective partnership, led by Karin Smith MP, that brings this event to South Bristol each year provides our students, schools and the wider community with crucial access to local employers who are offering opportunities in a wide range of careers with hundreds of fantastic job vacancies and apprenticeships.”
