About the course

This qualification is a basic craft introduction to the Bricklaying industry. This course gives you the knowledge and skills to enable you to achieve a recognised Bricklaying trade qualification which could lead to employment or an apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

Essential Requirements:

•A good grasp of basic Maths and English

Desirable Requirements:

•Achieved a level 1 qualification in Bricklaying

•Achieved 3 GCSEs grade D and above including Maths and English

•A strong commitment to adopt a 'work ready' approach, taking responsibility for your own development and behaviour

•Completed 30 hours or more of work experience within the construction industry

An Information, Advice and Guidance session is not necessary, learners can direct enrol onto this course if they meet the entry requirement.

What will I do on this course?

Unit 201/601 Health, safety and welfare in construction

You will learn all about Health safety and welfare in construction ranging from legislation to fire safety to accident reporting

Unit 202/602 Principles of building construction, information and communication

You will learn the basis of construction including the roles and responsibilities of various other trades and construction professionals. You will also learn about the documentation and methods of communication that are used within the construction industry

Unit 203 Producing thin joint masonry and masonry cladding

You will learn about and gain practical experience of thin joint masonry and masonry cladding

Unit 204 Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers

You will learn about and gain practical experience of solid brick and block walls and brick piers

Unit 205 Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures

You will learn about and gain practical experience of setting out masonry structures

Unit 206 Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures

You will learn about and gain practical experience of constructing cavity walls

Who is it for?

This course is suitable for mature learners who have a keen interest to learn knowledge and skills to start a career in Bricklaying
