About the course

Site carpenters make and install wooden structures, fixtures and fittings in a variety of construction projects including new build, renovation and commercial work.

Our apprenticeships give learners industry recognised qualifications and the practical skills they need to become successful employees in the trade. Throughout the two year apprenticeship, your trainee will learn job specific skills whilst working with you and also obtain training at the college. You will need to employ them and they must receive the national minimum wage of £3.30 per hour.

Entry Requirements

Prospective applicants should;

  • Possess a range of qualifications which should include at least 3 GCSEs at grade D or above, including English Language and Maths
  • Achieve a level 1 or above in an initial assessment test, provided by the college
  • Have a strong commitment to working with you and our college assessor.
  • Have a good record of attendance at school or college
  • Demonstrate a high degree of enthusiasm and a guarantee to succeed and prepare effectively for employment

Their apprenticeship consists of;

  • Work-based NVQ
  • College based technical certificate
  • Employment rights and responsibilities
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
  • Functional skills (if required)
Who is it for?

The candidate will need to have to ability to work accurately and have an eye for detail, have good practical and creative skills, and be able to carry out physical work and work well both as a team and independently.

How Is this course assessed?

Your apprentice will be assessed in a number of different ways and will receive regular feedback to guide their progress. Some of the ways in which we will measure their success will be:

  • Attendance
  • Portfolio work
  • Exams
  • Online assessments
  • Practical assessments
What could I do next?

On successful completion of the course they may be able to progress to the level 3 advanced apprenticeship in Site Carpentry. They will also have an industry recognised qualification so can be employed as a Site Carpenter.

Additional cost

The apprentice will need to provide protective footwear and a high visibility vest for practical sessions at college.

Interview

You will need to interview the candidate for employment. Once you have secured a successful apprentice, they will also need a course entry interview with the college. If you require support short listings candidates for interview the college will be happy to assist.
