About the course

This qualification is a basic craft introduction to the Painting and Decorating industry. This course gives you the knowledge and skills to enable you to achieve a recognised Painting and Decorating trade qualification which could lead to employment or an apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

Essential Requirements:

•A good grasp of basic Maths and English

Desirable Requirements:

•Achieved a level 1 qualification in Painting and Decorating

•Achieved 3 GCSEs grade D and above including Maths and English

•A strong commitment to adopt a 'work ready' approach, taking responsibility for your own development and behaviour

•Completed 30 hours or more of work experience within the construction industry

An Information, Advice and Guidance session is not necessary - learners can direct enrol onto this course if they meet the entry requirement.

What will I do on this course?

Unit 201/601 Health, safety and welfare in construction

You will learn all about Health safety and welfare in construction ranging from legislation to fire safety to accident reporting

Unit 202/602 Principles of building construction, information and communication

You will learn the basis of construction including the roles and responsibilities of various other trades and construction professionals. You will also learn about the documentation and methods of communication that are used within the construction industry

Unit 215 Preparing surfaces for decoration

You will learn about and gain practical experience of how to prepare surfaces to receive a decorative finish

Unit 216 Applying paint systems by brush and roller to complex areas

You will learn about and gain practical experience of applying paint by brush and roller

Unit 217 Applying standard papers to walls and ceilings

You will learn about and gain practical experience of wallpaper hanging

Unit 218 Producing specialist finishes for decorative work

You will learn about and gain practical experience of producing special decorative finishes such as wood and marble effect, stencil work and colour effects

Unit 220 Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms

You will learn about and gain practical experience of erecting, dismantling and storing of access equipment such as ladders, trestle platforms and tower scaffolding

Unit 230 Creating and applying colour

You will learn about and gain practical experience of colour wheels and colour schemes

This course is suitable for mature learners who have a keen interest to learn knowledge and skills to start a career in Painting and Decorating.

What could I do next?
