About the course

If you are interested in Japan- the language and the culture, or need to use more Japanese in your job, then this is the course for you. The Foundation course follows on from our Beginners Plus course and will expand and build on your vocabulary and grammar. You will learn how to travel around the city, understand and give directions, go shopping and talk about holidays and events.

Entry Requirements

  • to have studied Japanese for at least a year, or
  • to be able to express yourself and cope in everyday situations without having formally studied any Japanese and
  • to have an interest in the language and bags of enthusiasm and motivation
What will I do on this course?

You will learn to use and understand a range of simple words, sentences and questions and be able to take part in short conversations in familiar situations. Students will work as a class and in small groups or pairs using a variety of enjoyable learning methods and resources. Homework will be set for independent study.

There will be a focus on speaking, listening and reading.


Topics will include:- traveling around the city, giving and understanding directions, using a map, shopping, talking in the past tense about events

Who is it for?

For people who may have spent a year learning Japanese already.This is not suitable if you are a complete beginner.

How Is this course assessed?

Through informal assessment by yourself and your tutor during the course, focusing on listening, speaking and reading.
